Tameside
inspiredspaces and its joint venture partners in the Local Education Partnership (LEP), have reached financial close on the £300 million Tameside Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, which forms part of the UK Government’s £45 billion Building Schools for the Future programme.
The LEP, which comprises Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, BSF Investments Limited and Carillion, will initially deliver twelve secondary and special schools, at a capital cost of £173 million in the current wave of the BSF programme. This wave will include two privately financed schools on which Carillion began construction in February 2009, and two design and build schools on which Carillion began construction in September 2009. Carillion will provide facilities management services over the 25 year concession period, with an approximate value of £21million for all 4 schools. All 12 schools in the current wave of the BSF programme will be completed by the end of 2012.

The LEP will also deliver further new schools for Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council in waves 10-12 of the BSF programme, to a total value of £300 million.
The LEP will deliver all aspects of the BSF process from inception to completion, helping Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council’s educational transformation through the procurement of innovative school accommodation and related services.
By creating radically improved school environments and educational climates, inspiredspaces in partnership with Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council will create the transformational step change for learners and the wider communities.

Key to inspiredspaces selection was the understanding of the Tameside educational vision and how through an approach to partnership underpinned by shared Values this vision can be realised.
To Date
The Tameside BSF programme now has 4 major projects on site. Mossley Hollins High School and St Damian’s RC Science College commenced on site in February 2009 with New Charter Academy and Samuel Laycock School commencing in September 2009. inspiredspaces have also successfully delivered numerous “Injected Works” during 2009 with further works expected in 2010.
Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council’s Readiness to Deliver submission for funding for the next seven Secondary Schools [BSF Wave 10 – 12] has also been successful in securing a further £120m. As part of the BSF programme, the new funding will mean that 19 local secondary schools, academies and learning centre’s will benefit from new or remodeled schools.
inspiredspaces and Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council have commenced work on developing the educational vision of the next set of schemes, this involves engaging with the schools to confirm their thoughts and vision. inspiredspaces are currently working to close the next batch of five non-sample schools in the first quarter 2010.
